SomGaGa is no stranger to the musical aspect of the entertainment industry both locally and internationally. I first lean about him on South Africa’s most anticipated and successful films to date, Sarafina. A musical themed movie channeling the story of the 1976 Soweto student uprising. It saw our male version of Goddess’s acting career taking off – touring in the West End production of Sarafina in London. Later scooped a role in landmark movie, Cry, The Beloved Country. Somizi’s extensive experience in musical theater remains the foundation of his multi-talents.
The occasional drag queen, “SomGaGa” effortlessly resembles deeds of his legendary parents. The late comedian Ndaba Mhlongo and actress Mary Twala. Somizi inherited the entertainment spark from his legendary entertainment showbiz savvy folks. Actively involved in musical theater, choreographing music videos and live productions. Including the Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, South African Music Awards and the Miss South Africa pageant among many.
Humorous, openly gay and most flamboyant personality Somizi’s career saw him shaking shoulders with globally recognized exceptional stars. Our newly appointed Idols Judge has worked with Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg, Grammy Award winning superstar ‘Mama Africa’ Miriam Makeba and Tony Awards nominee Leleti Khumalo.
Following Somizi’s first appearance at The State Theatre Pretoria , where the countrywide auditions for Idols SA Season 11 kicked off. Soon after Idols SA aired on M-Net and Mzansi Magic. During his Idols debut, “SomGaGa” stole millions the viewing audience’s hearts.
